Pune: City witnessed a significant rise in vehicle registrations in the eight days leading up to Gudhi Padwa, with a total of 10,170 new vehicles registered. This marks an increase of 2,834 vehicles compared to last year’s 7,336 registrations during the same period. The estimated value of vehicle purchases has crossed ₹300 crore, indicating strong consumer demand.

As in previous years, two-wheelers dominated sales, with 6,510 units sold between March 20 and 28, followed by 2,424 four-wheelers. Many buyers registered their vehicles in advance, taking possession on the auspicious occasion of Gudhi Padwa. In the days leading up to the festival, vehicle showrooms saw heavy footfall, reflecting growing enthusiasm among buyers.

According to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) data, this year’s sales exceeded last year’s figures, highlighting positive consumer sentiment. “The trend of purchasing vehicles on Gudhi Padwa has grown this year, with a noticeable shift towards electric vehicles. The RTO has ensured smooth registration processes,” said Swapnil Bhosale, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pune.

The increasing fuel prices and growing preference for environmentally friendly alternatives have led to a surge in electric two-wheeler and motorcycle sales. Lower maintenance costs, reduced repair expenses, and government incentives are driving this trend, making electric vehicles (EVs) a popular choice among buyers.
