Pune: Two tragic accidents occurred in the city over the weekend — one on Vadgaon Flyover and another in Viman Nagar — resulting in the deaths of a two-wheeler pillion rider and a pedestrian.
Pillion Rider Killed in Vadgaon Flyover Accident
A 25-year-old pillion rider was killed early Sunday morning after a speeding truck rammed into a two-wheeler on Vadgaon Flyover. The deceased, Kiran Pawar (25), was a resident of Shram Safalya Colony, Karvenagar. The rider, Yash Jayprakash Kirdatt (25), sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
According to police, the accident took place at around 5:15 a.m. on June 22, when a truck hit the two-wheeler from behind. The impact caused the truck to collide with two cars on the flyover as well, damaging both vehicles. The truck driver initially fled the scene but was later arrested by Sinhagad Road Police Station.
The accused, identified as Mantesh Shrikant Andodagi (37), hails from Golsar in Karnataka’s Vijayapura district. Senior Police Inspector Dilip Daingade and Crime Branch Inspector Uttam Bhajanavale visited the site, and Police Sub-Inspector Malusare is investigating further.
Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Rickshaw in Viman Nagar
In a separate incident on Saturday night, a pedestrian was killed after being struck by a speeding autorickshaw near Symbiosis College Gate No. 1 in Viman Nagar. The deceased, Mansoor Anwar Alam (54), was a resident of Sasoon Quarter, Somwar Peth.
The accident took place at around 8:15 p.m. on June 21. Alam was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.
Alam’s son, Mohammed Rihan Mansoor Alam (26), has lodged a complaint at Viman Nagar Police Station. Police have booked the autorickshaw driver, Jalindar Baban Shelke (57), a resident of Kalas, Alandi Road, and Police Constable Dhende is handling the inquiry.
