Pune: In a major step toward women’s empowerment, the Women and Child Development Department has launched a plan to distribute 4,000 Pink E-Rickshaws to eligible women in Pune district. Aimed at boosting employment and enhancing mobility safety for women, the initiative has already attracted 3,230 applications from women aged 20 to 50.
Of these, 1,726 applicants have been approved by a district-level committee headed by the District Collector. In the first phase, 60 beneficiaries will be handed over Pink E-Rickshaws provided by Kinetic Green Company.
The distribution ceremony is scheduled for April 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the College of Agriculture in Shivajinagar, Pune. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will preside over the event and distribute the e-rickshaws.
Several key dignitaries will also be in attendance, including Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, Minister of State Meghna Sakore Bordikar, Department Secretary Dr. Anupkumar Yadav, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, WCD Commissioner Nayana Gunde, Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner Shekhar Singh, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, and CEO Gajanan Patil.
The scheme spans eight districts and is designed to support the economic and social rehabilitation of women. Along with offering financial support for purchasing e-rickshaws, the program also ensures access to essential services for women to operate independently and securely in urban areas.
