Mumbai: Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) Yuva Sena Secretary Rahul Kanal has alleged that stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra received funding from terrorists to promote content against the government. Kanal’s claims come after Kamra recently performed a satirical song indirectly targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, calling him a “traitor.” The song went viral on social media, leading to members of Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction vandalizing the studio where it was recorded.
In his post, Rahul Kanal stated, “Speaking against our Honorable Prime Minister, Home Minister, Finance Minister, Chief Minister, and Deputy Chief Minister seems to be an agenda. Some people cannot digest the fact that India is the world’s fifth-largest economy. That’s why puppets like Kunal Kamra receive funding and support from terrorists to harm the integrity of our country and disrupt law and order.”
Kanal further announced that he would request YouTube to demonetize and shut down Kamra’s channel. He also plans to submit evidence to Khar Police Station. Kanal will visit the police station at 11 AM tomorrow to present his evidence and will also meet YouTube officials to demand action against Kamra’s channel. Additionally, he has called for an investigation into Kamra’s bank accounts.
In another post, Kanal wrote, “Let’s meet at Khar Police Station at 12 PM tomorrow and request Mumbai Police to investigate this matter and take appropriate action. We will also write to YouTube, urging them to act against Kamra.”
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police issued a notice to Kamra on Tuesday regarding his controversial statements about Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. He was asked to appear for questioning at Khar Police Station at 11 AM on Tuesday. However, Kamra’s lawyers requested a week’s extension, which the police denied. A second summons has now been issued, instructing Kamra to appear at the station as soon as possible. This notice was sent to his father’s residence, where his father accepted it. However, Kamra has reportedly informed authorities that he is currently not in Mumbai.
