Pune: A reckless driving incident occurred early on Sunday (March 16) on NIBM road, where a car hit a parked motorcycle on the road. The impact caused significant damage to the motorcycle. There have been no reports of any injuries in the accident.
The motorcycle owner, Sohail Shafiq Shaikh (33, resident of Kondhwa), has filed a complaint at the Kondhwa Police Station. According to his complaint, a case has been registered against the car driver, Kshitij Rakesh Mangla (30, resident of Mohammadwadi).
According to the police, Sohail Shaikh, who resides in Kondhwa, works as a milk parcel delivery boy. On Sunday morning, he was carrying milk parcels. At around 4 a.m., he parked his Bregman motorcycle (MH 12 VK 3338) near the Sunshree Suvarnayug Society on NIBM road. The car driver, Kshitij Mangla, driving a Kia car (MH 12 TK 1463) at high speed, crashed into the parked motorcycle from behind. After hitting the motorcycle, the car driver sped away from the scene. Later, Sohail Shaikh filed a complaint with the Kondhwa Police Station.
Incidents of drunk driving have significantly increased in the city, causing fear among the citizens. There is a growing demand from the public for strict actions to secure the roads and prevent such accidents. Citizens are urging the police to take more patrols and enforce stricter punitive measures to control such incidents.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested Kshitij Mangla, the driver of the car, from the Mohammadwadi area. Upon further interrogation, he explained that while trying to avoid a pothole near the site of the accident, he lost control and hit the parked motorcycle. Senior Police Inspector Vinay Pathankar is conducting further investigation.
