Pune : In a shocking incident at Bharti Hospital in Dhankawadi, relatives of an 86-year-old patient, Tejraj Jain, who passed away during treatment, went on a rampage, vandalizing hospital property and physically assaulting staff members. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the outpatient department, where Jain’s relatives, accusing the hospital of medical negligence, verbally abused and attacked security personnel and medical staff, including Dr. Ankita Arpit Grover.
The assailants caused significant damage to the hospital premises by throwing a wooden stool at a glass cabin. Following the disturbance, a police team was dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and pacify the agitated relatives. The authorities successfully brought the situation under control.
Dr. Grover later filed a police complaint, and the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station has registered a case under the Maharashtra Medical Services Act. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
This incident underscores the challenges faced by healthcare institutions in ensuring the safety of staff while managing emotionally charged situations. The hospital administration has called on the public to address grievances through appropriate channels, in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
