Pune: Recent thefts in the Karve Nagar and Kothrud areas of Pune have raised serious concerns about public safety, particularly for senior citizens. The two incidents, one during the day and another in the evening, highlight a disturbing trend of criminals operating with apparent impunity.

The first theft took place on Wednesday morning in Karvenagar’s Navsahyadri Society. An elderly woman was out for her regular morning walk when a thief boldly snatched her mangalsutra. In a shocking turn of events, the thief even returned to pick up a piece of jewelry that had fallen during the struggle.

CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, leaving the local community shaken and alarmed. This daylight robbery has intensified fears among residents, especially seniors, prompting calls for enhanced police patrols in the area during early hours when the elderly are most vulnerable.

Just hours later, a similar theft occurred in Kothrud’s Nachiket Society on DP Road. A couple, returning from their evening walk around 7:30 PM, was targeted by two individuals on a motorcycle. The thieves quickly snatched the woman’s gold chain as they entered the society, and despite the husband’s attempt to pursue them, the culprits managed to escape. The couple has since lodged a complaint, and the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

These incidents have sparked widespread outrage among local residents, who feel the growing disregard for public safety is putting the community at risk. Senior citizens, in particular, are becoming frequent targets of such crimes. Calls for increased police presence and better security measures are growing louder as residents demand urgent action to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
