Pune: A shocking incident unfolded in Kothrud, where a minor dispute escalated into a violent attack. A rickshaw driver and his accomplice allegedly assaulted two men, leaving them severely injured. The driver has been arrested for attempted murder, while a case has been registered against his accomplice.
The injured victims have been identified as Akshay Rajan Lonkar (29) of Vithai Park Society, Kasba Peth, and Lalit Adhav (24), also from Kasba Peth. The accused rickshaw driver, Sachin Mahadev Misal (48), a resident of Kothrud, has been taken into custody. His accomplice, Samrat Vijay Sanas (27), from Kanifnath Society, Kothrud, is also booked in connection with the case. A complaint was lodged by Lonkar at the Kothrud police station.
According to police reports, Lonkar and Adhav were returning home after attending a wedding in Kothrud around 12:30 a.m. on Friday. While taking a turn towards Paud Road from MIT College, they encountered rickshaw driver Misal, leading to a heated argument over a trivial issue.
Misal allegedly hurled abuses at Lonkar and Adhav before calling his accomplice, Sanas, to the spot. The duo then launched a brutal attack on the two men before fleeing the scene. The injured victims immediately reported the incident to the police, prompting swift action. Following an investigation, Misal was arrested.
Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane and Assistant Inspector Chetan Dhanawade visited the crime scene. Assistant Inspector Adagale is leading further investigations into the case. Authorities are now searching for the absconding accomplice to ensure justice is served.
