Pune : In a major theft incident that has sparked fear among local business owners, unidentified burglars broke into a currency exchange shop in Balewadi, Pune, and stole foreign currency worth approximately ₹25 lakh, including US dollars, Thai baht, and UAE dirhams.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Wednesday at Sunrise For You Forex Pvt. Ltd, a foreign exchange shop located in Balewadi. The thieves gained entry by breaking open the shop’s iron shutter and then forcefully pried open a locker inside the premises.
According to the police complaint filed by Rohit Dilip Malusare (40), a resident of Somwar Peth and an operator of the currency exchange business, the culprits stole ₹2,57,420 in Indian currency along with an estimated ₹20 to ₹22 lakh worth of various foreign currencies.
Upon receiving the information, the Baner Police rushed to the spot and began their investigation. CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding areas is being reviewed to identify the culprits. Police officials confirmed that a manhunt is underway.
The incident has created panic among shopkeepers and traders in the Balewadi area, raising serious concerns about safety and nighttime security.
