Sayaji Shinde Devarai fire broke out near Palvan village in Beed district, triggering panic and heavy damage. The blaze swept through the Sahyadri Devarai, a green initiative led by actor Sayaji Shinde. Locals reported thick smoke and fast-spreading flames on the hill slopes.
Firefighters and forest teams reached the spot quickly. Strong winds and dry grass pushed the fire forward. Crews worked with water tenders and manual lines to contain the spread. Officials said the operation continued for hours.
The Sahyadri Devarai stands as a flagship conservation effort. Sayaji Shinde founded the initiative to restore native forests and protect biodiversity. The Palvan site gained national attention after hosting the world’s first tree conference. It also became a local eco-tourism landmark.
Early estimates suggest damage to thousands of native trees. The affected species include banyan, peepal, tamarind, and lemon. Officials fear losses to medicinal plants, birds, and small wildlife. Teams will assess the full impact after containment.
This is not the first setback. A similar Sayaji Shinde Devarai fire incident struck the area in February 2022. Another flare-up followed in March that year. Shinde earlier voiced concern over possible human involvement. Authorities have not confirmed the cause yet.
Residents alerted the forest department as smoke rose rapidly. Ground teams faced hurdles due to heat and terrain. Despite challenges, responders prevented the fire from reaching nearby habitations.
The forest department has started a probe into the Sayaji Shinde Devarai fire. Officials urged citizens to avoid risky activities during peak summer. Restoration plans will follow once the site cools.
