Pune: A 64-year-old woman residing in the Sinhagad Road area of Pune became the latest victim of a cyber fraud, losing ₹1.38 lakh from her bank account. The scammers, posing as bank representatives, contacted the woman and falsely informed her that her account would be deactivated unless it was updated immediately.
The fraudsters convinced the elderly woman to share her banking details under the pretext of verifying her account. Shortly after, the victim discovered that a significant amount had been transferred out of her account to the fraudsters’ accounts.
The woman promptly reported the incident to the Sinhagad Road Police Station, and Police Inspector Uttam Bhajanwale is currently investigating the matter.
This case highlights the growing issue of cybercrimes targeting senior citizens in Pune. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid sharing personal or financial information over unsolicited phone calls.
