Pune:In a major revamp aimed at aligning technical education with emerging industry trends, Maharashtra’s Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) will introduce six cutting-edge courses from the academic year 2025–26. This move was officially announced by the state’s Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, Mangalprabhat Lodha, during a press interaction held after a review meeting at the Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture (MCCIA) in Pune.

The new courses are designed to cater to the future needs of local industries and are being implemented in a customized manner, with one or two courses tailored for each ITI based on the surrounding industrial ecosystem. “It is important that ITI students are not just employable but also future-ready. These courses will equip them with modern skills that the industry actively demands,” Minister Lodha stated.

The Six New Courses Introduced:

1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

2. Electric Vehicle (EV) Management

3. Industrial Robotics

4. 3D Printing

5. Drone Technology

6. Solar Technician

These courses aim to address the rising demand in sectors like automation, sustainable energy, and smart mobility. They are expected to enhance the employability of ITI graduates and also encourage entrepreneurial ventures, especially in fields like EV services and drone-based solutions.

Boost for Startups and Popular Courses

Minister Lodha emphasized that institutions should also initiate popular high-demand vocational programs, not just limited to the six announced. “We are also planning new schemes that will promote startup ecosystems among ITI graduates. Self-employment is the way forward,” he added.

Teacher Training and Infrastructure Development

To support these developments, the government has allocated ₹10 crore to build a dedicated faculty training center at the Aundh ITI campus in Pune. This facility will help upskill instructors in advanced technologies and methodologies. Furthermore, the state will fund the supply of updated machinery, refurbishment of hostels, and creation of tech-enabled labs.

Upcoming Changes and Facilities

Enhanced educational infrastructure across ITIs

Creation of modern, tech-enabled laboratories

Deployment of industry experts for mentorship

Availability of relevant machinery, classrooms, and trained staff based on demand

One principal per institute to ensure focused administration and accountability

Why This Matters

With India’s industrial landscape evolving rapidly toward automation, green energy, and digitalization, vocational training must adapt in real time. These curriculum changes signal Maharashtra’s intent to position its ITI graduates as not just factory workers, but skilled professionals ready for Industry 4.0.
