Pune: A horrific accident at Vadjainagar Corner on the Hinjewadi-Man Road claimed the lives of two female students when a speeding ready-mix dumper overturned while taking a turn. The two were riding a two-wheeler and were crushed under the massive vehicle. The tragic incident occurred on Friday (24th) at around 5 PM.
The deceased have been identified as Pranjali Mahesh Yadav (22, resident of Godrej Properties, Mhalunge, Mulshi, originally from Tembhurni, Madha, Solapur) and Ashlesha Narendra Gawande (22, resident of Godrej Properties, Mhalunge, Mulshi, originally from Rahatgaon Road, Amravati). Both were final-year science students at MIT College.
The accident happened when the dumper driver lost control while navigating a turn. The vehicle, carrying 32 tons of cement, overturned and fell on the two-wheeler, crushing the students under its weight. The impact was so severe that the bodies of the victims were mutilated.
Rescue workers used three cranes to lift the overturned dumper. Firefighters were seen collecting the dismembered remains with shovels, a heart-wrenching scene that left the rescue team in tears.
A young man riding another two-wheeler narrowly escaped the accident. On noticing the dumper overturning, he abandoned his bike and ran to safety. Had he moved a foot further, he too would have been caught under the vehicle.
This tragic accident underscores the urgent need for stricter regulations on speeding and improved safety measures for heavy vehicles on busy roads.
