Pune: In a welcome update for Pune residents, Shivajinagar BJP MLA Siddharth Shirole has announced that the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Road flyover—specifically the stretch from Bremen Circle to E-Square—will be accessible to commuters starting next week.
Shirole shared, “The construction of this flyover segment is nearly done. The initial phase, covering the route from Bremen Chowk to E-Square Chowk, is scheduled for inauguration next week. The remaining part of the flyover is expected to become operational within the next three months. We are consistently following up on the project’s progress and are in talks with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the inauguration ceremony.”
The Bremen Circle to E-Square section was originally intended to be opened by May 1, but delays in construction postponed the launch.
Meanwhile, work on the two-level flyover at the SPPU Chowk is also close to completion and is anticipated to open in the near future.
This entire project is being implemented by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to alleviate chronic traffic issues on Ganeshkhind Road, one of Pune’s most heavily trafficked corridors. As a crucial component of the Pune Metro expansion, the flyover will feature a metro rail line on the upper deck and lower-level ramps providing connectivity to key areas like Aundh, Shivajinagar, and Pashan.
While progress is evident, the ongoing construction has been causing significant traffic snarls, leading to daily inconvenience for commuters. Residents are urging the authorities to speed up the remaining work and bring long-awaited relief to the city’s traffic woes.
