Pune: The forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj hold greater significance than temples, stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to their preservation and conservation. He made this declaration during the Shiv Jayanti celebrations at Shivneri Fort, where a grand event was organized in honor of the legendary Maratha ruler.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Minister of Cultural Affairs Adv. Ashish Shelar, MLA Sharad Sonawane, former MLA Atul Benke, Special Inspector General of Police (Kolhapur) Sunil Phulari, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, and other dignitaries.
Government’s Commitment to Fort Development
During his speech, CM Fadnavis underscored that Shivaji Maharaj was not only a warrior but also an exceptional administrator who laid the foundation for Swarajya. He highlighted the ongoing development work at Raigad Fort and Shivneri Fort, along with the government’s decision to remove encroachments from historical forts to ensure their protection.
Fadnavis further revealed that 12 forts from Maharashtra have been nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status, with a presentation scheduled in Paris next week. He expressed confidence that these historic sites, recognized for their architectural brilliance, water conservation techniques, and environmental science, will soon attract global attention.
State Government to Uphold Shivaji Maharaj’s Ideals
Speaking at the event, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Shivaji Maharaj’s vision of just and inclusive governance. He acknowledged the engineering excellence of Maratha forts, which continue to inspire people worldwide.
Shinde also highlighted the state’s initiative to develop a tourism circuit that will provide enhanced facilities for visitors to these forts. Additionally, he noted that Shivaji Maharaj’s naval power continues to inspire modern India, as reflected in the Indian Navy’s adoption of his emblem.
No Shortage of Funds for Fort Conservation: Ajit Pawar
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar reiterated that funds will not be a constraint for fort conservation. He assured that development projects at Raigad, Shivneri, Pratapgad, Sinhgad, and Purandar forts are progressing swiftly.
Pawar urged citizens to follow Shivaji Maharaj’s principles of social harmony and governance, calling upon people to contribute towards Maharashtra’s progress while upholding his legacy.
Cultural Tribute to Shivaji Maharaj
The celebrations commenced with women in traditional attire singing a cradle song dedicated to Shivaji Maharaj. The police band performed the national anthem and the state song, “Garja Maharashtra Majha,” followed by a three-gun salute in honor of the great warrior. Schoolchildren showcased theatrical performances depicting significant moments from Shivaji Maharaj’s life, enthralling the audience.
As part of the tribute, CM Fadnavis and Deputy CMs Shinde and Pawar laid floral offerings at the statues of Child Shivaji and Jijabai and carried the palanquin of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s idol.
Shivneri Bhushan Awards Conferred
The Shivneri Bhushan Award was presented to former MLA Balasaheb Dangat, Dr. Amol Dumbare, Jalinder Korde, and Rajabhau Paymode for their notable contributions.
The grand event saw participation from Maratha Seva Sangh representatives, local officials, and a large number of Shiv devotees, celebrating the enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
