Pune: A student at a government girls’ hostel in Moshi has claimed she was expelled by the hostel rector for ordering a pizza online, but the hostel administration maintains that a disciplinary notice was the only action taken.
The student, who is studying at a local college, explained, a pizza box was found in her room. When the rector questioned her and her roommates about it, she said none of them admitted to ordering the pizza. Despite this, she was suspended from the hostel.
The student also mentioned that she had attended a winter camp for a national service program after submitting an application to the hostel, but the administration accused her of not informing them beforehand. She stated that these accusations have caused her distress and she no longer feels safe in the hostel. As a result, she is staying at a relative’s home and has requested to be transferred to another hostel.
The hostel, which is managed by the state’s Social Welfare Department, has a policy against ordering food from outside. According to the administration, the state government has issued clear guidelines regarding the potential health risks of consuming outside food, especially fried items, and the negative impact it could have on the hostel’s reputation.
When questioned about the incident, the rector explained that a pizza box was discovered while cleaning the room of the student and her roommates. After questioning the students, none of them provided a satisfactory explanation for the order. As a result, the administration issued a disciplinary notice, but it was emphasized that no one had been expelled from the hostel.
