A Sukhoi-30MKI crash in Assam has resulted in the death of two Indian Air Force pilots, officials confirmed. The accident occurred in the Karbi Anglong district, where the fighter aircraft went down during a flight operation.
The Indian Air Force confirmed that Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Durgakar lost their lives in the incident. Following the Sukhoi-30MKI crash, authorities immediately launched search and rescue operations in the region.
According to preliminary information, the Russian-origin Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet lost radar contact during flight operations on Thursday. Soon after the aircraft disappeared from radar, the Indian Air Force initiated a search mission involving local authorities and security agencies.
Later, the wreckage of the aircraft was located in the Karbi Anglong region of Assam, confirming the Sukhoi-30MKI crash. Rescue teams reached the crash site and began recovery operations while securing the surrounding area.
The Sukhoi-30MKI is among the most advanced multi-role fighter aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force. It plays a crucial role in India’s air defence strategy due to its long-range capability, advanced avionics and ability to carry a wide range of weapons.
