Pune: The ongoing summer heat has led to a decline in the supply of fresh produce in Pune’s wholesale markets, causing significant price increases for vegetables such as cucumber, cauliflower, capsicum, carrots, and flat beans.
According to senior trader Vilas Bhujbal, about 90 truckloads of vegetables arrived at the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard on Sunday (April 20), with the majority of consignments coming from states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan. Despite these arrivals, the overall supply levels were still lower compared to the previous week.
Vegetable Arrivals from Pune Division
Among the vegetables delivered from the Pune division, the following quantities were reported:
500-600 sacks of cluster beans
6-7 tempos of okra
3-4 tempos of guar
8,000-10,000 crates of tomatoes
4-5 tempos of green chilies
8-10 tempos of capsicum
7-8 tempos of cucumbers
5-6 tempos of cabbage
8-10 tempos of cauliflower
12 tempos of red pumpkin
30 trucks of onions
35 trucks of potatoes from Indore, Agra, and other areas
Price Spike in Coriander and Fenugreek
Prices for coriander and fenugreek have risen compared to last week, though other leafy vegetables have remained stable. On Sunday, the market received:
75,000 bunches of coriander
40,000 bunches of fenugreek
Wholesale prices per 100 bunches of leafy vegetables are as follows:
Coriander: ₹800-1,500
Fenugreek: ₹1,200-2,000
Dill: ₹800-1,000
Spring onion: ₹800-1,500
Chakwata: ₹500-800
Safflower greens: ₹300-700
Mint: ₹300-500
Ambadi (Roselle): ₹300-600
Radish greens: ₹800-1,500
Rajgira: ₹400-600
Swiss chard: ₹500-800
Amaranth: ₹300-600

Fruit Supply and Prices
While prices for watermelon, muskmelon, papaya, pomegranate, orange, sweet lime, and lemons have remained steady, sapodilla (chikoo) prices have dropped due to increased supply. On Sunday, fruit arrivals included:
35-40 tons of sweet lime
4-5 tons of oranges
20-25 tons of pomegranates
8-10 tempos of papayas
1,500-2,000 sacks of lemons
30-40 tempos of watermelons
20-25 tempos of muskmelons
2,000 boxes of sapodilla
200-250 crates of guava
