Pune: In a proactive move to address persistent sanitation problems in Kondhwa, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun taking immediate steps following a recent meeting with local residents. Sameer Punjabi from the Parge Nagar People’s Forum confirmed that citizens had a constructive discussion with Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram (IAS), where concerns regarding open dumping, garbage mismanagement, and poor cleanliness were raised.
Responding to the concerns, PMC’s Deputy Commissioner for Solid Waste Management, Sandip Kadam, conducted an on-ground inspection of the affected areas. His visit included localities such as Jyoti Hotel Chowk, Kondhwa Gaonthan, Parge Nagar, Kausar Baug Society, and Manish Park Society. Community members accompanied Kadam and highlighted several open plots that had become informal dumping sites.
Kadam assured residents that immediate cleaning operations would commence and said that private property owners would be issued notices requiring them to fence and maintain their vacant plots. “If owners do not act, the PMC will carry out the necessary work and recover the cost through property tax,” he stated. Discussions also included plans for intensified patrolling and community awareness programs.
Local PMC teams have been directed to carry out a comprehensive cleanup by area, and Kadam announced that designated PMC officer points will be set up in the neighborhood to ensure consistent oversight and enforcement.
Residents welcomed the prompt action and expressed their support. Among those present during the inspection were PMC officials Navnath Shelar and Admane, as well as active community members such as Prasad Smita Mahadev Babar and Wasim Khan, all dedicated to improving the cleanliness and quality of life in their locality.
