The Tapovan Tree Protest gained strong momentum today as actor and activist Sayaji Shinde reached Nashik’s Tapovan area. The movement, however, had already drawn attention due to the proposed cutting of hundreds of trees for the Sadhugram project. Shinde’s arrival therefore boosted the morale of local activists who have opposed the tree removal for several weeks.
In the introduction itself, the Tapovan Tree Protest highlights public anger. Moreover, Shinde said people raise their voice, but the system often suppresses it. He questioned whether the state follows democracy or dictatorship. His statement, meanwhile, triggered loud support from the gathered crowd.
Shinde expressed deep disappointment with the government’s handling of the issue. He remarked that leaders must stop doing politics over trees. Additionally, he criticised the decision to prepare the Tapovan space for the Kumbh Mela by cutting old trees. He said this action brings shame, especially when the Chief Minister and Prime Minister plan visits to the city.
The Tapovan Tree Protest grew stronger when Shinde declared that trees are like parents. Therefore, people must protect them at any cost. He also condemned the tenders issued for Tapovan, saying they ignore Nashik residents’ emotions. Furthermore, he promised full support to the ongoing movement.
In a powerful remark, Shinde warned, “If you say one tree will be cut and ten planted later, we reject that idea. We will stop every attempt to cut these trees.” Consequently, activists felt encouraged and continued their demonstrations with more unity.
Finally, the Tapovan Tree Protest continues as locals, environmental groups, and volunteers stand together to save Tapovan’s green cover.
