Baramati: A shocking incident has come to light from Koregaon village in Baramati Taluka, where a tenth-grade student took her own life after enduring continuous harassment and threats from four local youths. The girl was reportedly being stalked and mentally tortured over several months. Vadgaon Nimbalkar Police have arrested one accused, while the others are currently absconding.
The deceased, Ankita (name changed), had recently appeared for her Class 10 board exams. She was found hanging in her home, unable to cope with the threats and harassment. According to police reports, one of the accused, Vishal Dattatray Gawade, along with his accomplices Pravin Namdev Gawade, Shubham Satish Gawade, and Sunil Hanumant Khomne, had been stalking and harassing the girl for months.
Vishal reportedly pressurized her to marry him and threatened to kill her parents if she refused. He and his group often brandished weapons to instill fear in her. The girl was said to be under severe mental stress due to the ongoing intimidation.
On April 7, just before the village fair, Vishal allegedly issued yet another threat, warning her that if she didn’t marry him, her parents would be killed. Terrified, the girl ended her life by hanging herself at home.
Following the incident, the Vadgaon Nimbalkar Police registered an FIR under the POCSO Act, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and sections related to abetment of suicide. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sudarshan Rathod is currently leading the investigation.
