Pune: A widow and her young daughter were saved from losing their home in Vadgaon Maval, thanks to prompt action taken by Defence Officer Pravin Neharkar under the directive of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission.
The Women’s Commission had referred the case to Neharkar on Friday, June 13, after learning of the difficult circumstances faced by the woman. Having lost her husband in 2023, she was left with no financial support and had been ordered by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Maval-Mulshi to vacate the residence where she and her child were living.
Acting swiftly after receiving the case from the District Women and Child Development Office, Neharkar immediately prepared a Domestic Incident Report (DIR) and presented it in the Vadgaon Maval court on Tuesday, June 17. Despite not having a lawyer at that stage, he personally appeared before the court to advocate for the family’s urgent need for relief.
Recognizing the seriousness of the matter, the court granted an interim stay order on the same day by 6 PM, allowing the widow and her daughter to remain in their home. Neharkar also took additional measures to support the family, including arranging legal counsel for them the next day through the District Legal Services Authority. Furthermore, the court scheduled an expedited hearing to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
In a public statement, Officer Neharkar stressed the importance of prompt intervention in cases like these, reaffirming his commitment to standing by vulnerable citizens during times of crisis.
