Pimpri Chinchwad: A fatal road accident on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway near Shendre village in Satara district claimed the life of a woman from Pimpri-Chinchwad, officials confirmed on Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Parumita Devgariya.
According to police reports, Parumita and her husband, Sashimkumar Devgariya (35), were en route to visit his brother in Bengaluru when the tragedy unfolded. As their car approached Shendre village, an unidentified vehicle reportedly rammed into their car from behind. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times before crashing into the highway divider.
The collision was so severe that the car’s engine was detached and thrown onto the road. Meanwhile, a container truck trailing behind lost control and also struck the divider, leading to a pile-up involving three additional tempos. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the subsequent collisions.
Parumita Devgariya succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while her husband sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment. Following the accident, traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted. However, prompt action by Borgaon Police helped in clearing the route and restoring normalcy.
A case has been filed with the Borgaon Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
