Pune : In a significant breakthrough, the Warje Malwadi Police have arrested two men who had been absconding for the past three years in connection with serious crimes registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). One of the accused, identified as Akash Sibban Goud (age 23, resident of Shivane, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh), was apprehended near NDA ground in Shivane.
According to the police, Goud was wanted in two separate MCOCA cases registered at Warje Malwadi and Market Yard police stations. In one case, dated October 5, 2022, Goud allegedly assaulted a man named Shubham Mankar during a dispute that occurred while playing cricket. Fueled by an old rivalry, Goud reportedly attacked Mankar with a sickle, wooden sticks, and by kicking and punching him, leaving him seriously injured. A case of attempt to murder was registered along with MCOCA charges at the Warje Malwadi police station.
Additionally, Goud was also booked under MCOCA and dacoity charges at the Market Yard police station.
A special team led by PSI Sanjay Narlay under the guidance of Senior Inspector Vishwajeet Kaingade was deployed to trace the accused. The team initially visited his native place in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where they gathered intelligence from his friends and acquaintances. During the investigation, it came to light that the accused had been residing in Telangana, frequently changing locations to avoid detection.
On June 26, PSI Narlay received a tip-off from a confidential informant stating that Goud had returned to Shivane and was spotted near the NDA ground. Acting swiftly, the police team reached the location and apprehended him.
The 2022 case had already been charge-sheeted, and Goud has now been remanded to judicial custody for further proceedings.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Commissioner Rajesh Bansode, DCP Sambhaji Kadam, and ACP Bhausaheb Patare. The team included PSI Sanjay Narlay, constables Sagar Kumbhar, Ganesh Shinde, Yogesh Wagh, Amit Shelar, Balaji Kate, Nikhil Tangade, Sharad Pol, Amit Jadhav, Amol Zanjane, and Govind Kapate.
