Pune: In a heartwarming display of honesty, two young boys from Saswad found a gold Mohanmala valued at ₹4.5 lakh and ensured it was returned to its rightful owner. The boys, unaware of its worth, took the necklace home, where their family recognized it as real gold and promptly handed it over to the police.

The incident occurred near the historic Kunjirwada area, which is known for being the home of former municipal councilor Jitendra (Sonu Kaka) Jagtap. While playing outside, 9-year-old Varun Pradeep Jagtap and 8-year-old Sharv Raj Mahendra Jagtap discovered the glittering necklace on the ground. Curious about the item, they brought it to their family’s attention.

Recognizing its significance, Jagtap took the children to the Saswad Police Station. Assistant Police Inspector Vaibhav Sonawane and Sub-Inspector Ganesh Patil took immediate action to track down the owner. The police circulated information about the lost necklace, which eventually reached Megha Ramesh Gaikwad, a resident of Katraj, Pune.

Gaikwad had lost the Mohanmala during a pre-wedding photoshoot near the Sangameshwar Temple in Saswad. After learning that the necklace had been found and handed to the police, she and her family visited the station. Following verification with receipts and other details, the police were able to return the necklace, which weighed 52 grams and had fallen unnoticed during the shoot.

A grateful Megha Gaikwad expressed her joy: “This necklace was meant for my wedding, and getting it back feels like a blessing.”

To honor the integrity of the young boys and the Jagtap family, the police department recognized them for their honesty, setting a positive example for the community.
