Pune: In preparation for the upcoming annual Palkhi procession of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, the Maharashtra State Transport Department and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) have launched a special vehicle inspection campaign to ensure the safety of Warkaris during the spiritual journey.
The initiative, which began on June 9 and will run until June 14, 2025, is being carried out under the leadership of Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao and Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde. The campaign focuses on verifying the roadworthiness and documentation of vehicles transporting Warkaris.
To facilitate the inspection process, dedicated camps have been set up at the RTO offices in Dehu Road and Alandi. Two senior officers have been appointed to monitor and guide the operation. The checks will emphasize technical fitness, valid paperwork, and overall vehicle safety, with on-the-spot assistance provided for resolving any issues.
The RTO has requested all Warkaris and transport providers to voluntarily present their vehicles at the designated centers for inspection. Timely checks are being encouraged to help ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the yatra.
