Pune: A youth was murdered after an argument over the alleged harassment of a female friend. The victim was struck on the head with a stone during a dispute near the Jambhulwadi Lake on Saturday night (June 14) around 10:30 PM. The Ambegaon police have registered a case against the accused.
The deceased has been identified as Rohit Namdev Dhamal, a resident of Bhumkar Vasti, Narhe, Sinhagad Road. A case has been filed against Suraj Ganesh Suryawanshi, a resident of Ganesh Peth. The complaint was lodged by Rohit’s friend Deepak Sukhdev Bandgar (21), also a resident of Narhe, Sinhagad Road, at the Ambegaon Police Station.
According to police information, the accused Suraj, and the two others, Deepak and Rohit, were all friends. An argument had occurred earlier between Rohit and Suraj over the harassment of a female friend. On Saturday night, around 10:30 PM, the trio went to the Jambhulwadi Lake area in Ambegaon. There, another argument broke out between Suraj and Rohit, during which Suraj struck Rohit on the head with a stone.
Rohit sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Meanwhile, complainant Deepak informed the police about the incident. Senior Police Inspector Sharad Jinne visited the crime scene. Suraj Suryawanshi is currently absconding, and a manhunt has been launched. The investigation is being led by Assistant Police Inspector Gore.
