Pune: Kondhwa Police have busted an illegal liquor operation and confiscated country-made alcohol valued at ₹34,000 during a raid conducted on May 1 near Om Bungalow, beside Shivkrupa Medical, in Lane No. 4 of Gokulnagar, along the Katraj-Kondhwa Road in Kondhwa Budruk.
The case, filed under Section 65(E) of the Mumbai Prohibition Act, was lodged based on a complaint by Police Constable Abhijit Sopan Jadhav (Badge No. 8201), attached to Kondhwa Police Station. The FIR was officially registered later the same night at 11:23 PM.
Two individuals have been named in the case: Arun Hanumant Dhawale (46), a resident of Bhivari in Purandar Taluka of Pune district, who is currently evading arrest, and Nehal alias Sonya Kumbhar. The duo is accused of possessing a large quantity of illegal liquor with the intention to sell, without a valid license.
During the operation, authorities seized eight black cans, each with a 35-litre capacity, containing a total of 280 litres of illegally brewed liquor, estimated at ₹28,000. Additionally, 300 small plastic pouches of 200 ml each, packed in two cloth bags and valued at ₹6,000, were also recovered from the scene.
Senior officials, including Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar, Crime Inspector Abdul Shaikh, and Assistant Police Inspector Mayur Vairagkar, were present during the seizure. The investigation is being led by API Mayur Vairagkar, who also registered the FIR.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the absconding accused and uncover the full extent of the illegal liquor distribution network operating in the area.
