Pune: As of March, consumers in the domestic, commercial, and industrial low-tension categories across Pune Circle have racked up pending electricity bills totaling ₹69 crore. Of this amount, ₹22.54 crore has already been recovered, while supply to 41,791 defaulting consumers has been disconnected.

To recover the remaining ₹46.46 crore, Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), Pune Circle, has instructed officials to intensify their recovery operations. These directives were issued during a review meeting held at ‘Prakash Bhavan’ in Ganeshkhind on Tuesday, May 6.

Kakade emphasised the need to balance administrative efficiency with quality customer service. He urged field officers to speed up the approval process for new electricity connections, especially in locations where the infrastructure is already in place. He also called for the swift processing of online applications concerning name and address changes and load enhancements.

To improve transparency and fairness, officials have been told to inform applicants promptly if their submissions are incomplete or missing documents—before taking any decision to reject the application. This approach aims to give consumers a fair chance to provide the necessary paperwork.

Kakade further insisted that all consumer services—including resolving billing issues and providing new connections—must be completed within the timeframes specified by the Consumer Service Standards. To ensure compliance, executive engineers have been tasked with overseeing day-to-day operations.

In addition, Kakade raised concerns over unusually low electricity consumption recorded in certain commercial and industrial accounts. He has instructed field staff to carry out immediate inspections to detect any potential irregularities or unauthorised usage.
