In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old woman working as an IT engineer allegedly died by suicide by jumping from the 21st floor of a residential high-rise in Pune’s Hinjewadi area in the early hours of May 31. The deceased has been identified as Abhilasha Bhausaheb Kothambire, a resident of The Crown Greens housing society.
According to Hinjewadi Police, Abhilasha arrived at the society premises around 4:30 a.m. on her two-wheeler. She then took the lift to the 21st floor—her residence. Just minutes later, at around 4:42 a.m., she jumped from the balcony, leading to her death on the spot.
Upon conducting a preliminary investigation, Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat of Hinjewadi Police Station confirmed that no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances were detected at the scene. The case appears to be a suicide driven by emotional distress or depression, as per initial police assessment.
During a search of her residence, authorities found a suicide note in which she had written:
> “Sorry, please forgive me. I am doing this of my own free will. I no longer have the desire to live.”
The police are continuing their investigation to rule out any external factors and have informed the family. The incident has once again highlighted the growing mental health challenges among young professionals in high-pressure industries like IT.
