Pune: A deadly accident in Pune has once again highlighted the rising cases of drunk driving. The Kalyaninagar Drink Drive case unfolded on Sunday afternoon outside Toit restaurant. A speeding car burst into the parking zone and hit valet worker Satyendra Mandal. He suffered critical injuries. Although the staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, doctors confirmed his death soon after.
Driver Appeared Drunk While Entering Parking Lane
According to eyewitnesses, the car entered the parking lane at high speed. The driver, identified as Pratap, looked visibly drunk. He failed to slow down. As a result, the vehicle went straight into the valet counter. The impact pushed Mandal several feet back. Moreover, panic spread in the area as customers witnessed the crash from close range.
Police Move Quickly and Begin Investigation
Yerawada Police reached the spot within minutes. They detained the accused and sent him for a medical alcohol test. Officers then examined CCTV footage to understand the sequence of events. In addition, they conducted a detailed panchnama at the site. The police have now started the procedure to file charges for rash and negligent driving.

The Kalyaninagar Drink Drive incident created tension among residents. Many said that Kalyaninagar and Koregaon Park see frequent weekend drunk driving cases.
