Pune: A shocking incident occurred on February 8, when a 60-year-old man driving a Maruti Ertiga car hit a biker near Bhairoba Nala and 93 Avenue Mall at Bhairobana Chowk on Solapur Road and dragged him for about 500 meters.
The incident took place around 9 p.m., when 30-year-old Abhijit Yeduba Golait, a resident of Heaven Park, Azadnagar, Hadapsar, filed a complaint at the Wanawadi police station against the driver, Rajiv Krishnakumar Barman, 60, from Sacred Heart Town, Wanawadi.
According to the police report, Golait was riding his two-wheeler home when Barman’s car collided with him from behind, damaging the footrest of the bike. After the collision, Golait stopped the vehicle in front of the car and requested the driver to step out. While Golait was taking a photo of the car’s license plate, Barman allegedly drove forward again, hitting Golait and causing him to land on the bonnet. Barman continued driving, dragging the biker for around 500 meters before stopping, as onlookers began shouting.
Upon receiving the report, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anuradha Udmale, Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Adame, and Police Inspector (Crime) Govind Jadhav visited the site to assess the situation.
The Wanawadi police have arrested Rajiv Barman and charged him with attempted murder. Police Sub-Inspector Dilip Palve is currently investigating the case.
