PUNE: City is witnessing an unseasonal rise in temperatures, with heat levels resembling those typically observed in peak summer months like April and May. Several parts of the city recorded temperatures above 36°C on Friday, with Koregaon Park reaching a sweltering 37.2°C. Other areas, including Chinchwad, NDA, and Shivaji Nagar, also experienced highs of around 35°C.

As per the information provided, the increase in temperature is just beginning. Cold winds from the north, which usually bring relief, are being blocked by warm, moisture-laden winds from the southern peninsula and the Bay of Bengal. This is preventing cooler conditions in central India and Maharashtra, leading to higher-than-usual night temperatures,” he explained. Multiple Western Disturbances have disrupted the usual weather patterns, preventing the establishment of a consistent northerly wind flow.

While this year’s warming trend aligns with previous years, certain regions are seeing more noticeable shifts. Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have recorded a steady increase in night temperatures, and a gradual rise in daytime temperatures is expected in southeast Maharashtra and parts of Saurashtra after February 23. Weather forecasts predict a continuous increase in both maximum and minimum temperatures in the coming days.

Some parts of south Maharashtra may experience light rainfall, while Pune is likely to see partly cloudy skies around February 23. Additionally, an orange/yellow alert has been issued for Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and northeastern states due to expected weather fluctuations.
