Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule on Tuesday stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured her he would look into the murder case of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh.
Criticizing local authorities in Beed, Sule expressed disappointment over their inability to apprehend the absconding accused, Krushna Andhale, even two months after Deshmukh’s killing.
The murder of Deshmukh on December 9, 2024, has sparked political controversy in Maharashtra, with allegations linking state minister Dhananjay Munde and Walmik Karad, an accused in an extortion case related to the murder. Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village, was allegedly abducted, tortured, and killed for attempting to prevent an extortion attempt targeting an energy firm.
So far, the police have arrested seven individuals in connection with the crime.
During her visit to Massajog village, Sule met with Deshmukh’s family and later traveled to Parli town in Beed district to console the relatives of murdered trader Mahadev Munde, whose 2023 killing remains unsolved.
Speaking to reporters, Sule mentioned that she, along with Beed MP Bajrang Sonawane (NCP SP), had met Amit Shah to discuss the case, and Shah assured them of action. She also stated her intention to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to seek justice for Deshmukh’s family.
In addition, she called Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat, urging a fair and transparent investigation into both cases.
