Pune: In a joint operation by the Food and Drug Administration and the Kale Padal Police Station, a total of 74,44,650 INR worth of contraband items were seized, including approximately 64 lakhs worth of banned gutkha and four pickup vehicles worth 12 lakhs.
In this case, 38-year-old Sampatraj Pemaraj Chauhan (from Kondhwa, Pune) has been arrested. Food Safety Officer Vijaykumar Ambadas Unwane filed a complaint at the Kale Padal Police Station.
According to the police, based on information received by the secret informant department of the Food and Drug Administration, a joint raid was carried out with the Kale Padal Police team at a warehouse on Wadachiwadi Road, Ghule Wasti, Undri. The warehouse contained various brands of banned flavored tobacco and pan masala gutkha, hidden in different goods transport vehicles. The police arrested Sampatraj Pemaraj Chauhan at the warehouse and questioned him. A total of Rs 64,000 worth of banned gutkha and four pickup vehicles worth Rs 12 lakhs were seized from him.
Meanwhile, Chauhan has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006. He has been arrested, and further investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Anil Nimbalkar.
This operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Deputy Commissioner Rajkumar Shinde, Assistant Police Commissioner Dhanykumar Godse, Senior Police Inspector Mansingh Patil, on the instructions of Police Inspector Amar Kalange, Assistant Police Inspector Pravin Abdagire, Police Constables Jadhav, Patil, along with Food and Drug Administration’s Food Safety Officers and their team.
