Pune : Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi has appealed to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to intervene and help resolve the challenges plaguing the stalled convention center project. The project, intended to establish an international-standard convention center on a ten-acre site within the university’s premises, has been mired in controversy and complications.
During his visit to the university on Thursday, Pawar acknowledged the difficulties faced by SPPU regarding the project. Dr. Gosavi, along with other key university officials, including Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Parag Kalkar, Acting Registrar Dr. Jyoti Bhakere, Finance Officer Dr. Charushila Gayke, IIL Director Dr. Devidas Golhar, Management Council member Ravindra Shinganapurkar, and several other faculty members, met with Pawar to discuss the matter.
Dr. Gosavi requested Pawar’s intervention to resolve the issues and revive the convention center project, which he emphasized would greatly enhance the university’s infrastructure. In addition to discussing the convention center, Pawar reviewed SPPU’s broader development efforts, including staffing and innovative, student-centric initiatives aimed at improving the university’s educational environment.
Pawar reassured the university leadership that the state government would provide all necessary support to address these challenges. He also expressed his vision for SPPU to be included in the top 200 global universities, promising to assist the university in achieving this ambitious goal.
During the meeting, Dr. Gosavi also briefed Pawar about various innovative schemes being implemented at SPPU, which are designed to foster overall growth across departments and affiliated colleges. He outlined ongoing activities and provided details about upcoming initiatives aimed at furthering the university’s development and progress.
