Nagpur: In a shocking incident during the Nagpur violence on Monday night, a mob took advantage of the darkness and attempted to undress a female police officer while molesting her. The Ganeshpeth police have registered a case against the rioters.

This incident is reminiscent of the horrific event that occurred during a Raza Academy rally in Mumbai a few years ago. According to reports, after violence erupted on Monday night, a mob of around 500 people started pelting stones and shouting slogans. To control the situation, Deputy Commissioners of Police Niketan Kadam, Shashikant Satav, and Archit Chandak, along with Inspectors Machhindra Pandit and Nitin Rajkumar, Sub-Inspectors, five police personnel, and the Riot Control Team, rushed to the scene.

As the mob turned violent, they hurled stones at the police, abused them, and launched an attack. Amid the chaos, a group of rioters caught hold of a female police officer, attempting to undress her while making obscene gestures. However, the officer managed to escape, preventing a major catastrophe. Following this, the mob vandalized police vehicles, and videos of some rioters hurling abuses have gone viral on social media.

The violence erupted after an incident in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, where the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal held a protest in the Gandhi Gate area, demanding the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb. During the protest, a symbolic effigy of Aurangzeb was burned, leading to outrage among the Muslim community. Some individuals from the community lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that their religious symbols had been insulted.

As news of the incident spread rapidly, some miscreants engaged in stone-pelting and arson in the Mahal area, creating a tense atmosphere in the city. The attack on police officers has further intensified the gravity of the situation.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the Vishva Hindu Parishad denied burning any religious texts and demanded strict action against those spreading false rumors and inciting riots. They also called for stern action against those who attacked religious sites.
