Pune: The Youth Congress seems to be grappling with internal factionalism, as the All India Youth Congress (AIYC) swiftly annulled the recent appointments made by the Maharashtra State Youth Congress within just eight hours.
The appointments, which included 20 state vice-presidents, eight general secretaries, and several other posts, were announced at midnight by Kunal Raut, President of the State Youth Congress, via an official WhatsApp group. However, by the next morning, the AIYC headquarters in Delhi issued an official letter declaring these appointments null and void.
The AIYC leadership cited procedural violations, stating that no official approval was sought before making the appointments. The letter, signed by National Secretaries Ajay Chinkara, Ehsaan Khan, and Kumar Rohit, emphasized that such unauthorized appointments constitute a serious breach of party discipline. It further warned that disciplinary action would be taken against those responsible for bypassing the approval process.
The incident has sparked confusion and unrest among state Youth Congress members, raising concerns over internal differences between Maharashtra Youth Congress President Kunal Raut and the AIYC leadership. According to Central Committee rules, all major appointments, including those of state presidents, require clearance from the Central Committee.
Since Raut failed to seek this mandatory approval, the AIYC swiftly intervened and issued a letter from Delhi, effectively canceling all appointments within hours. The letter also stated that an internal investigation would be launched to determine accountability and take necessary action.
This episode has further exposed factional tensions within the Youth Congress, leaving party workers in a dilemma about whom to follow—the state leadership or the national command.
