Pune: The Maharashtra police department has decided to dismiss two suspended officers involved in the Kalyaninagar Porsche hit-and-run case. A proposal for their termination has been sent to the Director General of Police (DGP), Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed.
The hit-and-run case, which initially saw the juvenile accused being sentenced to write an essay, later led to nationwide outrage after shocking revelations emerged. Now, in a major development, Pune Police have proposed the dismissal of officers Rahul Jagdale and Vishwanath Todkari for negligence in handling the case.
The incident, which took place in Kalyaninagar last year, sparked widespread anger across the state. A minor, driving a Porsche, fatally knocked down two pedestrians—a young man and a woman—on the street. The case gained significant attention due to the lenient initial punishment given to the accused.
Rahul Jagdale and Vishwanath Todkari were suspended on May 24, 2024, during the investigation, after allegations of misconduct in handling the case surfaced. A departmental inquiry was conducted, and both officers were found guilty of dereliction of duty. Based on the inquiry report, Pune Police have recommended their dismissal from the force, pending final approval from the DGP.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that the proposal has been sent, and further action will be taken accordingly.
