Pune: Recognizing the need to enhance safety measures for students and staff, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has launched a dedicated Security Helpline to address security-related concerns on campus.
As part of this initiative, the university has introduced a helpline number (020-48553383) that allows students, faculty, staff, and visitors to report any security issues directly. This helpline is designed to facilitate prompt action in case of any security threats, suspicious activities, or other safety concerns.
“If anyone notices suspicious movements or faces a security-related issue, they can contact this number immediately. This will help in taking swift action,” stated a university official.
The decision to introduce this helpline follows a recent molestation case on the university premises. A few days ago, three female students were harassed while heading for lunch. Based on a complaint filed by the university administration, the accused, Anish Gaikwad, was arrested and later remanded to police custody until March 30 by the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Amol Shinde.
The university administration has assured that every complaint received via the helpline will be taken seriously, with appropriate action being initiated by the relevant authorities. The move is expected to strengthen security on campus and create a safer environment for students and staff.
