Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken serious note of the tragic incident at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, where a woman lost her life allegedly due to denial of timely medical treatment. In response, he has ordered a thorough investigation and formed an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of the Charity Commissioner, Pune.

The committee will include Yamuna Jadhav, Deputy Secretary; a representative from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat’s Charitable Hospital Help Cell (either Joint Head or Desk Officer); the Superintendent of Sir J. J. Hospital Group, Mumbai; and a Deputy or Under Secretary from the Law and Judiciary Department, who will serve as the Member Secretary.

Following the incident, the Chief Minister has also directed strict implementation of the Charitable Hospital Scheme across all charitable hospitals in the state. These hospitals have been asked to ensure reserved beds are made available to poor and economically weaker patients. To streamline the process, they must register with the online ‘Charitable Hospital Help Cell’ system. Immediate instructions are to be issued to all such hospitals.

The Law and Judiciary Department had earlier constituted an inspection team whose report and recommendations will be acted upon without delay. The government has also approved the recruitment of 186 Charitable Health Workers in these hospitals, and these positions will be filled immediately.

Updated details regarding the Indigent Patient Fund (IPF) are to be collected from all charitable hospitals and published on the Charity Commissioner’s official website. Hospitals failing to comply with the scheme will face strict action, in line with directives from the Hon’ble High Court.

This action follows the unfortunate death of Tanisha Bhise, wife of Sushant Bhise, who serves as a PA to BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe. She reportedly passed away due to complications during childbirth after Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital allegedly refused to operate without an advance payment of Rs 10 lakh. The hospital is said to have advised the family to shift the patient to a government hospital if they couldn’t afford the charges.

Tanisha was later admitted to another hospital, where she successfully gave birth to twins. Tragically, she passed away shortly after. This heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage and led to urgent government intervention.
