Mumbai: Mumbai Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the violent assault during a burglary attempt at actor Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Thane on Sunday, January 19, 2025. The arrested individual, 31-year-old Shariful Islam Shehzada, had been residing in Mumbai for the past five to six months and was found to be a Bangladeshi national. Authorities also discovered that Shehzada had been using the alias “Vijay Das” after entering India and was employed at a local housekeeping agency. Notably, he did not possess valid documentation proving his legal residency in India.
Police reports suggest that this was the first break-in attempt at Saif Ali Khan’s residence, Satguru Sharan, located in Bandra. The incident escalated into an assault, with the actor being stabbed multiple times during the burglary attempt. Saif Ali Khan sustained serious injuries, including wounds to his thoracic spine. He was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital for treatment. Medical staff confirmed that a surgery to remove a 2.5-inch blade from his body was successful, and the actor’s condition has now stabilized. Although still under observation, Saif has been moved out of the ICU and is reportedly “out of danger.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dikshit Gedam, confirmed that Shehzada would be presented before the judiciary, and the police would seek custody for further investigation.
