Pune : In a move to simplify the housing project registration process for developers in the Nagpur and Pune regions, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) will now host open houses outside its Mumbai headquarters. The first of these sessions will take place in Nagpur on January 22, 2025.

While MahaRERA already holds weekly open houses in Mumbai to assist developers with project registration queries, developers outside the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) often face difficulties in accessing the same support. In response to these challenges and requests from developers in Nagpur and Pune, MahaRERA has decided to extend these open houses to these cities. The sessions will feature officials from the legal, financial, and technical departments to help address developers’ concerns directly.

MahaRERA has also recently revised the minimum project requirement for Self-Regulatory Organisations (SROs) outside the MMR. The threshold has been lowered from 500 to 200 projects, allowing regional real estate associations to form SROs and further streamline the registration process.
MahaRERA Chairman, Manoj Saunik, emphasized the importance of project registration under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA), which mandates that no housing project can be advertised without a valid registration.

“MahaRERA has developed the legal, financial, and technical infrastructure necessary for issuing registration numbers. By extending our open house sessions to Nagpur and Pune, we aim to support developers across the state,” he said. Saunik encouraged developers to complete their registration forms with all the necessary details to ensure a smooth experience.

Akhil Agarwal, MahaRERA convenor for CREDAI Pune, welcomed the initiative, requesting the establishment of a regional office in Pune to handle the high volume of registrations, which account for over 30% of the state’s total.

Legal expert and RERA consultant, Adv. Amruta Bhosale Salunke, praised the decision to extend open houses outside Mumbai and suggested that hosting them twice a month would allow developers ample opportunities to clarify doubts and ensure RERA compliance.

The new initiative marks a significant step in improving the efficiency of housing project registrations and enhancing the support available to developers across Maharashtra.
