Pune: Pune Police have now turned their attention to unauthorized coaching classes for competitive exams. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued a stern warning, stating that strict action will be taken against classes operating without proper permissions. This comes just four days after a late-night student protest in the premises of Faraskhana Police Station near Alka Chowk, which appears to have been influenced by coaching class operators themselves.

According to police sources, some coaching class owners allegedly instigated students to protest. Following this, a meeting was held with the class operators, where they were explicitly warned of legal consequences if they continue to operate without proper permissions from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) or without fulfilling other legal requirements.

In light of recent student protests over issues such as changes in exam patterns and demands related to MPSC and UPSC exams, the Police Commissionerate on Tuesday organized a meeting with the heads of various coaching and guidance centers. The protest at Faraskhana Police Station had lasted late into the night, raising concerns over law and order.

Police have noted that many coaching class operators in central Pune, where thousands of students prepare for competitive exams, are allegedly pushing students to protest for their own financial gains. Students are reportedly being used to criticize decisions made by exam commissions and to demand postponements of exams, thus disrupting public order. Furthermore, people with no real link to competitive exams have also been found fueling these protests.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that several coaching class operators in Pune are violating regulations—failing to ensure student safety, not obtaining clearances from the fire department, PMC, and local police stations. A verification campaign is currently underway, and strict action will be taken against those operating outside the law, he confirmed.

The police have now placed these coaching centers under close surveillance, and both instigators and illegal operators are officially on the radar.
