Pune: In a remarkable display of talent, discipline, and dedication, 1200 primary school students from Deccan Education Society (DES) set a new world record in yoga on Saturday. The students performed 30 diverse types of yoga, blending both ancient and modern practices, in a stunning 150-minute performance. Their flawless execution, accompanied by melodious music, left the audience in awe.
The event was energized further by the rhythmic beats of traditional dhol (drums) played by the students’ parents, as thousands of spectators cheered enthusiastically.
Key figures in education and administration, including Pramod Rawat, President of the Governing Board of DES, Vice President Adv. Ashok Palande, Secretary Dr. Anand Katikar, and Dr. Sharad Kunte, were present to witness the historic moment. Also in attendance were Prof. Dhananjay Kulkarni, Chairperson of the School Committee Adv. Rajashree Thakar, Principal Archana Dhanawade, and world record event advisors Dr. Milind Sampagavkar, Khemraj Ranpise, Dr. Pallavi Ghawane, Dr. Sopan Kangne, and Vicky Baravarkar. Physical education teachers Yogini Kande, Simran Guzar, and Gracy D’Souza played a pivotal role in preparing the students for this world record attempt.
The program began with a ceremonial lighting of lamps and the echoing sound of a conch shell, setting the tone for the record-breaking event. Students, dressed in both traditional and modern attire, showcased a range of yoga poses, including Kal Yoga, Surya Namaskar, Chandra Namaskar, Tribal Yoga, Animal Yoga, Bird Poses, Partner Yoga, Rhythmic Yoga, Chair Yoga, Power Yoga, and even Aqua Yoga. The performances were accompanied by a blend of devotional bhakti songs, film music, and festive beats, creating an unforgettable atmosphere.
Among the highlights of the event were unique performances such as underwater yoga and skating yoga, with video clips of these activities shown to the audience, emphasizing the students’ creativity and innovation in yoga practice.
