A disturbing discovery near the Monkey Hill section of the Mumbai-Pune railway line has triggered a major investigation after a woman’s decomposed body was found stuffed inside a pink suitcase.
The suspicious suitcase was first spotted by a train passenger on Thursday as the train passed through the scenic but isolated ghat stretch. Alarmed by its presence near the tracks, the passenger immediately alerted the railway authorities.
Responding swiftly, the Lonavala Railway Police along with other officials reached the location and retrieved the suitcase. Upon opening it, they found the severely decomposed remains of a woman, indicating that the death may have occurred several days earlier. A panchnama was conducted on-site, and the body was sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Given the condition of the body and the method of concealment, investigators strongly suspect foul play. While the identity of the woman remains unknown, police are treating the case as a potential homicide. A detailed forensic examination is underway, and authorities are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to track any possible suspects or movements linked to the case.
Senior officials are overseeing the investigation, with technical teams assisting in gathering and analyzing evidence.
Law enforcement has appealed to the public for any information that might assist in identifying the woman or shedding light on how the suitcase ended up on the railway tracks. The police are urging residents and commuters to come forward with any relevant details, no matter how small, to help solve this chilling case.
