Pune: With Phase 1 of the Pune Metro now fully operational, all stations along the Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor are up and running. In a bid to improve accessibility for commuters, Pune Metro is implementing several infrastructure upgrades, including the construction of dedicated pedestrian bridges connecting core city areas to nearby metro stations.
Two such footbridges are currently under development, aimed at linking the Peth areas to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan and Deccan Gymkhana metro stations. The pedestrian bridge near Sambhaji Udyan is almost complete and will soon be opened for public use, while work on the Deccan Gymkhana bridge is progressing rapidly.
The Deccan pedestrian bridge is being built above the existing Bhide Bridge, which spans the Mula River. Once finished, it will provide safer and more direct access to Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station for residents of Narayan Peth, Shaniwar Peth, and Laxmi Road, as well as students from nearby colleges and schools.
To facilitate the ongoing construction, Bhide Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic starting midnight on Sunday, 20 April 2025. The closure will remain in effect until 6 June 2025. However, the adjoining riverside road will stay open to ensure continued traffic movement.
Pune Metro has urged residents to use alternate routes, including Lakdi Pul, Balgandharva Bridge, and Z Bridge, during the closure period. Authorities have assured that efforts are being made to complete the project at the earliest and minimise disruption to the public.
Citizens are requested to extend their cooperation for this crucial infrastructure enhancement, which is expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity to the city’s metro network.
