Pune: In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security agencies across the country have intensified their monitoring of foreign nationals, especially those from Pakistan. According to the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) of the Pune City Police, 111 Pakistani nationals are currently residing in Pune.

Out of these, 91 individuals are on long-term visas, while 20 are on visitor visas. Among those on long-term visas, 35 are men and 56 are women. Additionally, the police confirmed that three Pakistani nationals have already left the country.

Following the terror incident, the central government has reportedly directed Pakistani nationals residing in India to return to their home country. Most Pakistani visitors in India come either to meet relatives or for medical treatment. Long-term visas are valid for five years, whereas visitor visas are typically for 90 days.

Police officials stated that further action will be taken based on instructions from the Ministry of External Affairs and other concerned agencies. It is mandatory for any foreign national entering India to register with the local Police Commissioner’s office or District Superintendent’s office. Moreover, if a foreign national moves from one city to another, they must update their records accordingly.

Periodic verification of their stay is carried out by the police. Given the sensitive security climate, strict monitoring and verification of foreign nationals, especially those from Pakistan, has been ordered by the authorities to ensure national safety and security.
