Pune: A brother and sister were brutally assaulted by a group of men following a dispute over horn honking in Pune’s Bhawani Peth area. The attackers, claiming to be “the bosses of the area,” struck the young man on the head with a stone, leaving him seriously injured. The incident, which left three people injured, took place in the Guru Nanak Nagar locality on Saturday (April 27). An attempt to murder case has been registered against the attackers at Khadak Police Station.

The injured have been identified as Karan Lalit Keswani (28), his brother Harsh, and sister Nikita. The attackers also verbally abused and pushed their grandfather, Bharat Keswani. Based on Karan’s complaint, a case has been registered against Shoaib Umar Sayyed (resident of Kashewadi, Bhawani Peth) and five to six others.

According to police, the Keswani family resides in Jeevanjyoti Society in Guru Nanak Nagar. On Saturday, Harsh Keswani was passing through the area on a two-wheeler when he honked his horn, leading to an altercation with Shoaib. The accused verbally abused Harsh, slapped him, and beat him severely, tearing his clothes.

Hearing the commotion, Karan, Nikita, and their grandfather Bharat rushed to the scene. When they confronted the attackers, the group abused and assaulted them as well. Claiming dominance over the area by saying, “We are the bosses here,” the accused threatened them.

In a violent escalation, Shoaib allegedly struck Harsh on the head with a stone, causing severe bleeding. Despite his critical injury, the group continued to assault Harsh. When Karan and Nikita tried to intervene, they were also attacked with stones, resulting in injuries to Nikita’s hand and leg. The attackers further threatened to burn down Karan’s house and spread terror in front of the society.

Following the incident, senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, Assistant Commissioner Anuja Deshmane, Senior Inspector Shashikant Chavan, and Crime Branch Inspector Sharmila Sutar visited the scene. Police Sub-Inspector Kamble is investigating the case.
