Pune: As opposition intensifies over the planned Purandar International Airport, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has appealed to villagers and farmers to opt for dialogue over unrest, assuring them that their concerns will not go unheard.
Addressing the media in Pune, Bawankule acknowledged the growing unease over land acquisition related to the airport project. While stressing the importance of infrastructure growth for the state’s development, he urged the affected communities to engage with the government to find amicable solutions.
He encouraged residents to approach him personally or contact Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde to resolve issues pertaining to compensation, employment opportunities, and rehabilitation. Bawankule also expressed his readiness to coordinate a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, if required, to expedite resolutions.
Referring to the recent clashes and reports of police action, including an alleged farmer’s death, Bawankule described the incidents as “tragic and unnecessary,” urging all sides to maintain peace and prioritize communication over confrontation.
His statement comes at a crucial time as the project faces increasing resistance from locals, who fear displacement and inadequate compensation.
